Antique Wedding Fan
Picture
A customer wanted to preserve her grandmothers wedding fan but it was in bad shape.
Picture
Our finished height. Keeping the glass off the art serves to prevent condensation from collecting on the art.
Picture
We started by mounting fabric and laying out the center of each fan 'rib'.

Picture
The spines of the fan had separated from the silk so we made acid free shims to support it.
Picture
We build up hand-cut layers until our depth will keep the glass off our art.

Picture
We hand sew each spine individually so there isn't too much pressure. Old fabric can tear as easily as paper.

The finished product with museum quality glass. Preserved in the best ways possible now this heirloom can be displayed for generations.
